Winter is coming. And if the shorter days and icy air tend you leave you in a funk, you're probably less than enthused about its impending arrival. Still, there are many ways that you can combat the winter blues—without having to escape to the tropics for three months (but wouldn't that be nice?).
1) Break a sweat. Exercise is known to release feel-good endorphins, so don't put your workout routine on hold due to the season. Even going for a short walk near The Palatine can help, as the exposure to natural sunlight is said to have mood-boosting benefits.
2) Make plans. It's easy to feel a little down once the excitement of the holiday season comes to an end. That said, consider planning a post-holiday event that will give you something to look forward to. You could think big by planning a vacation or weekend getaway, or think smaller by treating yourself to a spa day or a dinner at that new restaurant you've been meaning to try.
3) Socialize. Resist the urge to hole yourself up in your The Palatine apartment until spring! Instead, make an effort to put in some face time with friends and family. Volunteer work can also help coax you out of a bad mood. And if you're feeling especially down, don't hesitate to ask for help!
